Artificial Turf for Tennis

Technical term from the TOP GREEN Artificial Grass Glossary – clearly explained based on over 25 years of experience.

Briefly explained

Artificial tennis turf is a sand-infilled synthetic turf for tennis courts. It combines year-round usability with a playing experience reminiscent of clay courts.

Artificial tennis turf usually consists of short, often fibrillated or textured fibers that are completely infilled with silica sand. It is particularly popular with clubs that wish to use their courts earlier in the year and for longer periods.

Benefits

  • playable in almost any weather
  • lower maintenance requirements than a traditional clay court
  • gentle on the joints due to easy sliding

Maintenance

The sand must be regularly redistributed and topped up. Leaves and fine particles compact the surface over time—deep cleaning restores water permeability and playing characteristics. A double tennis court measures 23.77 × 10.97 m; see also our guide on football pitch sizes for a field comparison.
