A fibrillated fiber is created from a wide plastic ribbon that is cut in a honeycomb pattern. When in use, the ribbon splits into many fine individual fibers.
Applications
Fibrillated fibers effectively retain infill material such as quartz sand. Therefore, they are often found in hockey and tennis turf, as well as in older sports field systems.
Difference from Monofilament
In contrast to monofilament, a fibrillated fiber appears less natural. For gardens and terraces, almost exclusively monofilament yarns are used today.
