The substructure plays a decisive role in the lifespan and appearance of artificial turf. If it is uneven or insufficiently compacted, dips and ripples will appear – and water will pool on the surface.
Typical structure in the garden
- Excavation of the topsoil
- Base layer of gravel, compacted in stages
- Levelling layer of grit or crushed sand, finely screeded
- Weed control fabric
- Artificial turf with edge trim
On balconies, terraces, or concrete surfaces, a gravel substructure is often not required – drainage or cushioning mats are used instead. We assess the ground conditions when planning your area.
