Slope

Technical term from the TOP GREEN Artificial Grass Glossary – clearly explained based on over 25 years of experience.

Briefly explained

The slope is the slight inclination of a surface that allows rainwater to drain away. For artificial grass, it prevents puddles and waterlogging.

Even though artificial grass is water-permeable, the subbase should have a slight slope—usually around 1–2%, which is 1–2 cm per meter. During heavy rain, this allows water to drain off the surface or via the drainage mat.

What you should look out for

  • Always drain away from the building
  • Use the existing slope on balconies and terraces to direct water to the drain
  • Avoid hollows and depressions when leveling the base layer

A properly planned slope is part of every professional subbase. Find out more in our installation guide.
