Small-sided pitches (also known as mini-pitches) are significantly smaller than a regular football field. They are often enclosed by boards and surfaced with artificial grass so that they can be used year-round with minimal maintenance.
Typical Features
- compact area, often with boards and ball-stop fencing
- small goals, sometimes permanently integrated into the boards
- artificial grass surface, often infilled with sand
- popular at schools, in parks, and on club grounds
Maintenance
Freely accessible small-sided pitches in particular are subject to intensive use. Leaves, litter, and compacted infill should be regularly removed or loosened – find out more under Artificial Grass Cleaning. See also Youth Pitch and Kickabout Pitch.
