Wind Suction

Technical term from the TOP GREEN Artificial Grass Glossary – clearly explained based on over 25 years of experience.

Briefly explained

Wind suction occurs when wind sweeps across a surface and creates negative pressure. On roof terraces, it can lift loosely laid artificial turf.

Strong suction forces occur especially on tall buildings, roof edges, and corners during storms. This wind suction can lift or shift lightweight, loosely laid surfaces such as artificial turf.

What You Can Do

  • Weigh down the artificial turf at the edges, for example with planters, curbs, or furniture
  • Join rolls into one large area using artificial turf adhesive and seam tape
  • Glue in strips on suitable surfaces
  • Never pierce the roof sealing with nails or anchors

For roof terraces, the permissible load and drainage should also be checked. We’ll advise you on planning your area.
