Anchoring Pins

Technical term from the TOP GREEN Artificial Grass Glossary – clearly explained based on over 25 years of experience.

Briefly explained

Anchoring pins – also known as ground spikes or U-staples – secure artificial turf along edges and seams in the sub-base.

Anchoring pins hold artificial turf in place on soil or gravel sub-bases. Common options include straight ground spikes with a head or U-shaped staples made of galvanized steel or plastic.

Where and How They Are Placed

  • along the edges at intervals of about 20–30 cm
  • closer together at curves and cut-outs
  • not through waterproofing membranes on roof terraces or balconies – there the turf is loose-laid or glued instead

After driving in the pins, the fibers are brushed over the head so it remains invisible. Alternatively, or in addition, artificial turf adhesive can be used to bond the edge trim. Find out more in our installation guide.
