Stain Removal

Technical term from the TOP GREEN Artificial Grass Glossary – clearly explained based on over 25 years of experience.

Briefly explained

Stains on artificial turf can usually be removed with water, a mild cleaner, and a soft brush. Aggressive solvents should be avoided.

Artificial turf is low-maintenance, but not immune to stains. The faster you react, the easier a stain is to remove.

Typical Stains and How to Treat Them

  • Drinks, fruit, ice cream: wash out with water and mild dish soap, then rinse.
  • Grease and oil: dab off excess grease, then treat with warm water and dish soap.
  • Chewing gum: freeze with ice and carefully lift off.
  • Pet urine: rinse thoroughly; if necessary, use an enzymatic cleaner – see Artificial Turf and Dogs.

What You Should Avoid

Solvents, chlorine, and acids can damage the fibers and backing. Test cleaners first on an inconspicuous area and brush the blades back up afterwards. Further tips can be found in the guide Cleaning Artificial Turf.
