Artificial grass samples

Technical term from the TOP GREEN Artificial Grass Glossary – clearly explained based on over 25 years of experience.

Briefly explained

An artificial grass sample is a small test piece that allows you to compare the look, colour and feel of different artificial grass ranges before you buy.

Photos never show artificial grass the way it really looks. A sample—a small test piece—is therefore the safest way to find the right type.

How to test a sample

  • view it outdoors in daylight and from different angles
  • press the blades flat and check whether they spring back up (resilience)
  • gently pull on individual blades (Tuft Bind)
  • check the backing for drainage holes and permeability

Even better: in the sample garden

A large piece in real outdoor use tells you more than a small sample. In our sample gardens, you can see Royal Grass® ranges exactly as they will look in your garden later on. More criteria can be found in our guide Which artificial grass is the best?.
