TOP GREEN Artificial Grass ProfessionalArtificial Grass Glossary

Surface temperature

Technical term from the TOP GREEN Artificial Grass Glossary – clearly explained based on over 25 years of experience.

Briefly explained

Artificial turf can heat up more than natural grass in direct sunlight. Light colours, special fibres and watering reduce the surface temperature.

In midsummer, the surface temperature of artificial turf is higher than that of natural grass when exposed to direct sunlight, as plastic does not evaporate water.

What helps against heat?

  • Fibre technology: Some manufacturers use yarns and pigments that store less heat.
  • Infill: Light-coloured quartz sand heats up less than dark granulate.
  • Water: A quick rinse noticeably cools the surface.
  • Shade: Trees, shade sails or pergolas.

Let us show you in the show garden how different types of artificial turf feel in the sun.
