TOP GREEN Artificial Grass ProfessionalArtificial Grass Glossary

Installation direction

Technical term from the TOP GREEN Artificial Grass Glossary – clearly explained based on over 25 years of experience.

Briefly explained

The installation direction describes which way the artificial grass blades point. It affects the appearance and the visibility of seams.

Artificial grass blades do not stand completely upright; instead, they lean slightly in one direction—the so-called grain. The installation direction determines which way this grain runs across the surface.

Rules of thumb

  • All rolls must run in the same direction—otherwise they will appear different in brightness and seams will become visible.
  • The blades should point towards the main viewing point, for example towards the patio or the window. This makes the lawn look densest.
  • Before cutting, align and mark all rolls.

Technologies such as ReaDY® make the fibres fall more irregularly and reduce the effect. Explained step by step in our installation guide.
