TOP GREEN Artificial Grass ProfessionalArtificial Grass Glossary

Drainage mat

Technical term from the TOP GREEN Artificial Grass Glossary – clearly explained based on over 25 years of experience.

Briefly explained

A drainage mat is laid under the artificial grass on solid surfaces such as concrete or tiles and ensures that water can drain away underneath.

On balconies, terraces and concrete surfaces, the water-permeable gravel sub-base is missing. This is where a drainage mat is used: a plastic mat with studs or a grid structure that creates a cavity between the subfloor and the artificial grass.

Benefits

  • Rainwater drains away under the artificial grass to the outlet
  • the artificial grass dries faster, moss and odours are prevented
  • minor unevenness and joints show through less
  • in some cases, additional cushioning

A prerequisite is a sufficient slope of the subfloor. More on water drainage under drainage.
