TOP GREEN Artificial Grass ProfessionalArtificial Grass Glossary

Impact Protection

Technical term from the TOP GREEN Artificial Grass Glossary – clearly explained based on over 25 years of experience.

Briefly explained

Impact protection refers to the shock-absorbing effect of a floor covering, for example on playgrounds. Artificial grass can serve as impact protection when combined with an impact protection mat.

Impact protection is designed to cushion falls and thus reduce the risk of injury. It is mandatory under playground equipment with a specific fall height.

Artificial Grass as Impact Protection

Artificial grass alone provides very little cushioning. In combination with an underlying impact protection mat (e.g., made of rubber or PE foam), a surface is created that is suitable for specific critical fall heights depending on the structure. This is measured according to DIN EN 1177.
