Elastic Layer

Technical term from the TOP GREEN Artificial Grass Glossary – clearly explained based on over 25 years of experience.

Briefly explained

The elastic layer is a resilient base layer under artificial turf sports fields. It improves force reduction and playing characteristics while protecting the players' joints.

An elastic layer (ET for short, elastic base layer) is located on many sports fields between the bound or unbound subbase and the artificial turf. It usually consists of rubber granules installed on-site with a binding agent, or of prefabricated elastic mats.

Functions

  • Force reduction and cushioning for players
  • Uniform sports-functional properties across the entire surface
  • Extended surface lifespan

The requirements for the construction of artificial turf sports fields are described in DIN 18035-7. Learn more about sports fields under Artificial Turf Pitch.
