In the context of artificial turf, loose plastic and rubber granulate used as <a href=\"https:\/\/topgreen.de\/en\/lexikon\/infill-filling-material\/\">infill<\/a> is primarily under discussion because it can enter the environment through wind, rain, and players. <\/p>\n<h2>The EU Regulation<\/h2>\n<p>Since October 2023, the EU has restricted the placing on the market of intentionally added microplastics. For granulate used as infill material on sports fields, an eight-year transitional period applies. Existing fields may continue to be used, but new granulate will no longer be available after this period.  <\/p>\n<h2>What This Means for Your Garden<\/h2>\n<p>Garden artificial turf is generally not affected by the regulation if it is installed without plastic granulate.
